Christmas with Shipp Parrott Shipp

Its Will’s first Christmas!!

Billy, Will and I have been up to some good holiday adventuring and cooking this year. These have been our wonderful gifts this year.

As I type our Christmas dinner is cooking in the oven: Baked Chicken and Scalloped Potatoes. We just polished of an amazing, yet simple, salad with red lettuce, arugula, and mixed baby greens with a olive oil, salt, lemon dressing. Mmmm. So good.

Last night for Christmas Eve we cooked up half a turkey breast, mashed potatoes, corn, cranberry sauce. I had to have the corn because it is a tradition in my family. We love our corn! Mom had to make sure to make lots and lots because we hate to run out (especially my brother Lenny and me). I liked the cranberry sauce because of the whole cranberries in there. Usually I only have a tiny tiny taste just because it is a Christmas thing others seem to like.

I am really missing my family this year. I love being at my moms house and hearing and smelling her cooking. I love her cozy home she sets and the tree she decorates. I love how much she loves to make a warm and cozy home with the right lighting and music. I feel so loved and nurtured there.

Even though we are far from home and not doing all the things you would expect for the Christmas holiday, I feel happy and blessed because I have a beautiful little family with me here: Billy and Will.
The cooking helps a lot. Food is such a wonderful comfort and social and sustaining.

We aren’t giving gifts this year because of the financial state of things. I haven’t yet posted about the latest adventure we are on… but basically our home flooded and we had to move out a.s.a.p. That was about a month ago. We hope repairs will be done by mid-February… we shall see. Anyway, we are making the best of it.

Happy holidays to you! Here is a little video Billy and I shot and Billy edited. Our gift to you this holiday, enjoy!

love,
~Billy, Christine, & Will (Shipp Parrott Shipp)

i heart etsy

I’m totally fascinated with Etsy (www.etsy.com).

In the words of Etsy:

Etsy is an online marketplace for buying & selling all things handmade.

Our mission is to enable people to make a living making things, and to reconnect makers with buyers.

Our vision is to build a new economy and present a better choice:

Buy, Sell, and Live Handmade.

Watch the “about” video to see a bunch of spirited, creative people tell the little Etsy story.

Billy introduced me to Etsy in January of 2008 and I have been visiting their site on and off since. I spend about as much time (maybe more) reading their articles as I do looking at people’s Etsy shops.

And, recently I discovered the Etsy videos… these made me fall in love with them even more. They have this style that is raw documentary meets inspired, thoughtful, and creative.

One video that I really enjoyed (I’ve watched it twice) was about this guy who creates t-shirt designs from the stuff of his dreams. He is a self-made, passionate artist who makes a living at what he does. His beginnings seemed grim but he persevered. Me: inspired! Watch his little video portrait.

Recently I discovered that my friend Kirsten Moore of Portland, Oregon is a seller on Etsy. Her company is called piper ewan. Her stuff is so divine that they even did a feature on her! Visit her blog post “written up” to find out who’s writting her up now.

And finally, I will leave you with a short Etsy article on Guerilla gardening. This is something that Billy and I have talked about doing. The author has some inspired ideas. Although, I would test the soil quality if you plan to eat your crop.

Etsy walks the talk. They have really created a great community, not only online but in person as well. People meet up and exchange ideas, teach skills, and the list goes on.

I look forward to eventually becoming an Etsy seller myself!

Sorry I Can’t Make the Shower :(

My dear friends, I have been anticipating with happiness my trip to Portland this week. Unfortunately I cannot travel now because I have been put on strict bed rest due to pre-term labor. I was really looking forward to visiting you all, looking into your lovely faces and giving you big hugs. I miss you all very much.

I can’t wait to share this part of my life with you and to hear all that you have been up to. Since I found out I was pregnant, I have become acutely aware of how much I have been hiding in my shell while adapting to the changes in my life, and of how much I miss my friends and family. I think of you often.

Billy and I had planned 2 trips to Portland before the baby’s due date of August 5th. I guess I will have to wait a little longer than I had hoped to nurture my Portland community, in person at least.

I would love to hear from you. You can email me at christine@maternityshare.com. My other email addresses that you have work as well. I will post here on MaternityShare at least once a day and will soon be adding pictures of my growing belly, and more! So I invite you come on back and visit often and join in the conversation.

Even though I am very camera shy, I wanted to create a little video greeting for you as well:

love,

~Christine
