Mom wants to play

I saw these cool building pieces called Magna-Tiles on amazon.com and I WANT THEM for Will. It is for ages 3 and up. We have 2 years and six months to go. Sigh. They got great reviews.

Will is getting to the point that he needs toys. I want to buy him one today… Billy wants me to make one out of the organic material we have. I need to get me sewing machine fixed but it costs $92 just for the tune up! And I need a tune up on my serger too. I need to learn how to do this myself, or I need to make some good cash. I tried to find a “how-to” on google but with no luck. Hmm, I will keep searching. Sewing is another way that this mom wants to play.

Wishing you a playful day!

ps. I typed this one-handed while rocking Will on my lap holding toys for him to play with.

I voted!

I got my “I voted sticker” today. I always feel proud of that sticker even though I think it is silly to wear and be proud of it. I am a dichotomous creature. (Can I use the word dichotomy that way?)

Last time I voted I voted absentee but my ballot never came in the mail this time. So, I went down to the polling place toting baby. I rolled him in the door to the local school’s shop classroom to find two steps to acend. There was no ramp. Sigh. I barely managed to heft the stroller up those meager two stairs and had risked Will’s comfort and safety doing so. (Sorry, baby!) Going back out was even trickier. As I was attempting to get him down the two steps I pondered my judgement and the possible outcome and got very frustrated (and stuck between stair one and two wondering what my next safe move might be when a very nice man came by and helped me down by taking the front of the stroller. We lifted Will down safely together. Ahh community. Thank you kind sir!

While we were there we dropped of Billy’s absentee ballot. Baby and I felt very accomplished. I am going to leave that sticker on my hoodie until it gets worn (or my hoodie gets dirty).

Proud mama, proud voter, happy Obamb supporter.

Oh, I should mention, we watched the election coverage on Current TV. Go here to check out the coolness that they produced for the evening. Oh Current, you keep offering unique and fun experiences that I can get involved in or not, depending on my mood. Current is social media channel – you have to check it out because it is too multifaceted for me to describe, and I am tired. Off to bed with me.

Will is 4 months old today!

Will is 4 months old today! That’s 16 weeks.

Wow, my little baby is becoming a little person. He is over 15 pounds. I really need to get back into fitness so I can keep a healthy body toting the little tyke around.

Yesterday I saw him grab for his toes for the first time. He did it again today. I love it, it is so cute. I would have gotten a picture but each time this happened I was holding his feet up so I could clean his bum/back while changing his diaper.

While being held supported in a reclined sitting position he began sitting up on his own this last week. He is still wobbly at it but he loves to try. The first time I saw him do it it was while trying to buckle him into his carseat… he would promptly lean forward and pull the straps into his mouth. He is drooling a lot and likes to “gum” (chew) on things. I think he is teething. The pediatrician told me at the last visit that his salavary glands would begin to develop and that he would begin drooling and that most people would think this mean that babies are teething but when he began gumming on his hand (and my fingers when he can get them). He would go after my hand with verociousness which was quite a site and experience. I got him a BPA-free teething ring with liquid inside that I can refriderate to soothe possible gum swelling. So far it is too big for him to hold. He is able to semi-hold it for a few seconds but his grasp is not yet controlled enough and his hands are a bit too little.

Today Billy and both had the urge to place him forward-facing in his carrier. I decided to wait for better head control, Billy decided it was a perfect day to try. Will loved it and was able to ride around for at least a half hour. Billy tired out before Will did. Billy uses the Baby Bjorn, I use the Moby Wrap and the Hotsling. I have the Maya Wrap on my wish list. For the health of my body, I find that is is good to switch up which carrier I use.

When Billy uses the Wii Fit he sometimes places Will in his basket propped up so that he can watch. Will gets so excited and works his legs and arms and goos and gaas while he watches dad. It is pretty comical.

Well, I have more to say and more updates to give but I must go for now.

Surviving the darker days

I just sent off an email to my group of mom friends in which I shared how I am surviving the darker days. It has been grey and raining here in the bay area.

Here is the exerpt:

Hope you all are well. Don’t let the grey days get you down. Try full spectrum light bulbs, yoga, or other movement, or a shift in thinking. Well, it has been helping me so I thought I’d share. :}

Stay bright!

Visit there, visit here

Two weekends ago Billy, Will and I went to Portland for my grandmother’s (mormor) memorial. We were there Friday to Sunday. Then the next day we had visitors from Monday to Thursday. Wow, this last week really packed a punch. Traveling with a little one makes everything that much more exciting. Will is actually a pretty good traveler which helps a lot. Add to the having an infant a dose of grief and a dollop of cramming in a gathering of friends that I wanted to see (I hadn’t seen some of them in over 3 years!) it was quite a weekend.

So we had Billy’s brother and girlfriend during this last week. This was the first time they got to see Will and our loft. They gave Will an awesome turtle that lights up to project stars and moons on the ceiling. Will hasn’t paid too much attention to it yet but I certainly enjoy it. So far, I have only tried it with him when he has been very tired and cranky. I need to try it when he is in a mellow or happy mood.

They also gave us a Wii Fit! Oh my! I did not expect to get into it very much but it is fun!

This Thursday Billy’s parents are coming for their 3rd visit since Will was born. They will be here until Sunday. The weather is grey and raining in the bay area… coming from San Diego to this may be rough for them. At least there is Will to bring “sunshine” in to their lives during the visit.

Will calls, gotta run.
